Concept >>>
_In the digital age, surveillance technologies have penetrated the fabric of our existence, shaping not only physical spaces but also our collective consciousness. <Fragility in the Eye of the Beholder> brings together a diverse range of works that critically engage with a [Machine Vision] or a [Vision through Machines] and its far-reaching implications on our society. This exhibition interrogates the aesthetic, infrastructural, political, and philosophical dimensions of surveillance and observance, with a particular focus on how machine vision algorithms, as tools of power, redefine our understanding of observation and control.

In an era where algorithms of machine vision function as the ultimate instruments of surveillance, the question arises: who holds the more fragile position—the observer or the observed? Through this lens, the exhibition examines the delicate interplay between observation and surveillance, control and resistance. It highlights works that challenge or intervene in these systems, either by hacking and subverting the surveillance apparatus or by critically reflecting on the aesthetics and power dynamics inherent in the technologies themselves.

Dates and Venues >>>
_All artworks will be presented online as a Pavilion from 1 November 2025 to 31 March 2026.
Within this timeframe, the exhibition will be hosted as the Embassy across some Scotland venues (we are in the process of discussing to be presented in Aberdeen and Glasgow).
The artworks will be displayed on screens facing outward, allowing viewers from the street to engage with the work at any time of day or night. This constant visibility underscores the tension between public observation and private agency, forcing both the public and the participants to confront their roles in a hyper-surveilled world.

Eligibility >>>
_Artists from all over the world are welcome to apply!

We accept the following FINISHED artworks >>>
_video art/short film where you explore machine vision technology. This can be, but is not limited to, CCTV, motion tracking, image classification, object detection, hacking of control//censorship//tracking algorithms, etc. You can dissect the technology, delve into it, mimic it or interact with it in some conceptual way. The format of the work is a video between 1 and 15 minutes.

Please note that no sound can be broadcast at the venue. If your work contains words, if selected, we will ask you to make accompanying subtitles in English.

The selection process >>>
_Your artworks will be carefully reviewed by the _VOID team. During the selection process, we aim to create a dialogue between the pieces and form a meta-narrative for the exhibition. We will contact the selected participants by email no later than 1 July 2025 for further discussion. We plan to accept at least 10 projects. Thank you for your time and interest in collaborating with us! We look forward to hearing from you!
