Ekaterina Kolpakova will present the audiovisual project IAM, which seeks to recreate the feeling of derealisation, offering viewers a sense of detachment from reality.
Derealisation is a disturbance in the perception of reality in which the surrounding world is perceived as unreal, distant, strange, ghostly, altered and frozen. In IAM this feeling is recreated in the space of an audio-visual installation, which consists of a 10-channel acoustic system and 3-channel video played on analogue TV sets.
The title of the project refers to Sylvia Plath's book The Bell Jar, where the protagonist mentally repeats the phrase "I am, I am, I am", convincing herself of both the reality of what is happening around her and the existence of herself.
